40 years from
the death of Nikos Kazantzakis
Nikos Kazantzakis
is one of the most important Greek philosophers, poets and writers of modern Greece.
1997 marks the 40th anniversary of his death. To honor that, a
range of symposia, exhibitions and other cultural events is organized in more than 13
countries of Europe and Australia by the "Society of Friends of Nikos
Kazantzakis". These events are organized in cooperation with the Museum of Nikos
Kazantzakis in Myrtia and with the University, cultural and local authorities.
In November 1997 an International Symposium entitled "Nikos
Kazantzakis, Crete and the three continents" will take place in Iraklion.
Within the framework of the Symposium the following issues will be developed: |

| In addition to the previous Symposium, in the schools in Crete there will
be several conferences, conversations, video presentations and a competition with subject
the work of N. Kazantzakis and first price a trip to South France, where N. Kazantzakis
lived. In the Museum of Nikos Kazantzakis, in Myrtia, visits, exhibitions and video
